Fresthetic in collaboration with Rare Form would like to announce the first ever official Donuts are Forever Art Exhibition to be held at the Fresthetic Gallery.

We are seeking works about, and/or inspired by,  the man and the music of James “J Dilla” Yancey.

Please note: Artwork will be available for sale by silent auction to benefit the Donuts are Forever Scholarship Fund.

Guidelines for artwork:

1. Any use of Dilla’s likeness and/or name can not be accepted.
2. Artists are allowed but not limited to: naming the piece after one of Dilla’s songs/productions and interpreting the meaning in the work.
3. All artists are welcome to submit work in any medium.

Deadline to submit work will be February 7th, 2012.

Artists should receive confirmation by February 10th, 2012.

Celebrate with us on 11/26

This November 26 is a big day for everyone at Fresthetic. It is the second annual Small Business Saturday, when people across the country come out and shop to support their favorite local businesses.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our Dia de los Muertos gathering. We were happy to host 3 great artists, Adrian “Viajero” Roman, Ben “Borish” Rojas, and Kai Margarida-Ramirez De Arellano as they treated us with a beautiful installation and altar for us to remember and pray for loved ones we have lost and our ancestors. One of the beautiful moments of the night was a special performance by Ase Dance Theatre Collective.

Yup folks, we are going out with a bang(er) on Saturday, September 17th. Our last Makossa Brooklyn Cookout for the Summer! It has been a great last 4 months at Fresthetic. #MakossaBK has been a monthly staple event for Brooklyn residents and visitors. Do not miss the last hurrah for the 2011 summer as we close it out and bid adieu til next year!

Come kick it with DJ WONWAY POSIBUL all the way from the BAY AREA teaming up again with Rare Form’s own DJ TARA and DJ SHINOBI SHAW. And as usual, our host w/ the most DEE PHUNK will be on mic duty all evening.
